Cora Systems celebrated Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s prestigious 2012 QIPP Award (Quality, Innovation, Productivity, Performance) Challenge win at an awards ceremony in London recently.
Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust won the accolade for the unprecedented success of its “Better Together” program, which combined innovative use of technology with a strong methodology and leadership to produce efficiency savings. The key to the success of the project was the understanding that innovation needs robust processes to truly reap rewards in terms of cost improvement and efficiency.
Cora Systems powered Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s program. It supported the development of the trust’s internal program assurance systems, which facilitated the successful QIPP agenda in Trust and Destiny, the supplier of digital pen technology, which realized a substantial saving as part of a transformational change program.
Derbyshire has derived a number of benefits from using Cora including:
- Visibility of how well the Trust provides consistently high levels of patient care
- Control of the progress and statuses of the Transactional and Transformation Change Programs
- Clear presentation of critical decision-making and information through user role specific dashboards and reports
Numerous submissions were entered for this highly regarded award. Following a vote among the attendees of the conference, the overall winner was Derbyshire Healthcare Foundation. Professor Sir Muir Gray CBE presented the QIPP program the award at the annual LinkGov national conference, 28 June 2012.

Nick Hodson, Head of Service Improvement and Program Assurance, Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“Sir Muir Gray absolutely pinpointed the reason why we have been so successful; delivering efficiencies sustainably requires an underpinning assurance process, which embeds QIPP in day to day practice. ‘Better together’ our Trust offering, describes how we minimized risk and maximized opportunity through working with the independent sector.”
Philip Martin, CEO, Cora Systems, added:
“We’re thrilled at the award win. It’s a real endorsement of the work we’re doing with Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s program, which is at the cutting edge of project and program management and ultimately the healthcare services the trust provides.”
The QIPP Award is part of the Quality, Innovation, Productivity, Performance Challenge: a large-scale program developed by the UK’s Department of Health to drive forward quality improvements in NHS care.
