Excerpts from Episode 11 – “Why PMP Certification?” with Joel Goldfarb

Joel mentions that although PMI was founded in 1969 but comments on the fact that the first PMP certification did not exist until 1984. He also believes that the certification has “ramped up” significantly in the last 10 years with 5,000 project managers passing the exam each month worldwide.

Joel gives a lot of information very relative to anyone thinking about sitting the exam, including both work and study requirements. Another interesting point, not commonly known according to Joel is the ability to sit the PMP exam without a pre-existing college degree with a higher amount of built up working hours.

Agile comes up in conversation between Joel and Johnny, discussing scrums and how they work as well as how it differs to the PMI approach.

Joel also gives a number of points on why you should consider choosing a training company as opposed to the self-study approach.
