Job Opening : Senior Data Science Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a visionary and hands-on Senior Data Science Engineer to lead our nascent data science initiatives. This pivotal role will be instrumental in transforming raw project management data into actionable insights and intelligent features within our SaaS product. You will be responsible for building, deploying, and maintaining advanced AI models that enhance user experience, automate processes, and provide predictive capabilities for project milestones and performance. Initially, you will operate as a lead individual contributor, with the opportunity to build and lead a small, high-performing data science team as our needs grow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Understanding & Strategy:

    • Deeply understand our existing product database structures and schemas, identifying key data points related to project milestones, tasks, resources, and user interactions.

    • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to establish robust data pipelines and ensure data quality for analytical and modeling purposes.

    • Develop and articulate a clear data science strategy that aligns with overall product and business objectives.

  • AI Model Development & Management:

    • Design, develop, and implement machine learning and AI models to address specific project management challenges (e.g., predicting project delays, optimizing resource allocation, identifying critical path risks, forecasting milestone completion).

    • Run and experiment with specialized AI models, evaluating their applicability and performance within our domain.

    • Extend and adapt existing AI models or research new techniques to continuously improve the intelligence and predictive power of our product.

    • Establish rigorous methodologies for scoring, testing, and validating models, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and fairness.

  • Production Deployment & MLOps:

    • Lead the deployment of AI solutions into production environments, ensuring scalability, stability, and performance.

    • Implement best practices for MLOps (Machine Learning Operations), including model versioning, monitoring, retraining, and continuous improvement.

    • Work closely with DevOps and engineering teams to integrate AI models seamlessly into our SaaS platform.

  • Technical Leadership & Programming:

    • Possess strong foundational programming skills (e.g., Python, R) for data manipulation, model development, and scripting.

    • Act as a technical leader and subject matter expert in data science, providing guidance and mentorship.

    • When the team grows, recruit, mentor, and lead a small team of data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Collaboration & Communication:

    • Work cross-functionally with product managers, engineers, designers, and business stakeholders to identify opportunities for AI integration and translate business problems into data science solutions.

    • Communicate complex analytical findings and model insights clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field. A Ph.D. is a plus.

  • 4 years of experience in data science, with a significant portion focused on building and deploying AI/ML solutions.

  • Proven experience working with large, complex datasets, ideally within a SaaS product environment.

  • Demonstrable experience understanding and navigating existing database structures and schemas (SQL proficiency is highly desirable).

  • Strong proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science (e.g., Python with libraries like Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow/PyTorch).

  • Solid understanding of various machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and experimental design.

  • Crucially, demonstrated experience deploying and managing AI/ML models in production environments.

  • Experience with MLOps tools and practices is highly valued.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across teams.

  • Experience in a project management domain or understanding of project lifecycle concepts is a significant advantage.

  • Prior experience leading or mentoring junior data scientists is a plus.
