For 25 years, project portfolio management did exactly what we asked of it. It gave organizations a method, a hierarchy and a system of record. It turned chaos into a plan and the plan into a report. We built one of those tools, and I'm proud of it.

But every PPM tool, ours included, rests on one assumption: that you manage a portfolio by asking questions. Ask for status. Wait. Consolidate. Present. Decide.

By the time you decide, the status has moved on. Better forms, faster dashboards and fewer clicks haven't changed that. They've just helped us ask faster.

The problem was never the speed of the question. It was the asking.

Most of our customers already hold enough data to answer anything they need. What they lack is foresight. The warning signs are there in the data. A dependency gets re-sequenced on Monday but won't show up as a cost overrun until quarter-end. A resource clash sits two projects away. The schedule says one thing and the timesheets say another. Nobody sees these in time, and that delay costs margin, credibility and sometimes customers.

What comes next isn't a faster version of PPM. It's a different category altogether: Autonomous Portfolio Intelligence.

It's where we're taking Cora, and it rests on three principles:

Always on. Always ahead. Intelligence runs on the portfolio's clock, not the reporting cycle. If something changes on Tuesday, you know on Tuesday.

Surfaced. Not discovered. The issues that matter reach the right people, with the reason they matter attached. Nobody waits for the one analyst who knows where to look.

Governed. Never guessed. This is the part much of the market is skipping. AI you can't audit is a rumor with a confidence score. Agents propose, people approve, and every action is recorded. Data doesn't change because a model decided it should. A board must be able to see who approved what, and why.

That raises the question every CIO should be asking: if everyone has access to the same AI models, what makes one agent better than another? It isn't the model. It's what the agent knows. Real portfolio intelligence has to be built on deep knowledge of how portfolios actually behave: how slippage really starts, where margin leaks first, which early warnings matter and which are noise. We've spent 25 years at the heart of portfolio management learning exactly that. That knowledge has never been put to work like this before. It's about to be.

This isn't AI bolted onto a scheduling tool. It's industry knowledge built into the financials, dependencies, governance and audit trail, which is where projects actually slip and margin actually leaks.

So the question for every portfolio leader is simple: do you want to learn what happened, or know what's about to?

More soon.
